Popular servings The list of ways that coffee & Tea can be served are much endless, but there is a core list of common favourites: Espresso—A strong coffee with a robust flavour and thick consistency, espresso is made by forcing hot water through finely ground dark-roasted coffee beans. It is often used as the foundation for other drinks, such as lattés, cappuccinos and mochas. An ideal espresso should be capped with a thin layer of dense, golden froth—the crema. Latté—Consisting of single shot of espresso mixed with steamed (not frothed) milk, a latté has more milk than a cappuccino but yields a far milkier taste. Café-au-lait—Similar to a latté, except that drip-brewed coffee is used instead of espresso, a café-au-lait is mixed with equal amounts of coffee and steamed milk or milk substitute. Cappuccino—A specialty consisting of 1/3 espresso, 1/3 steamed milk and 1/3 frothed milk, often topped with sugar or cocoa. Espresso macchiato—An espresso with just a touch of foamed milk on top. Americano—Consists of several shots of espresso and hot water to give a similar strength but a unique flavour from drip-brewed coffee. Iced coffee—An ideal summer treat, served with milk and sugar. Flavoured coffee—There’s no end to the possible combinations here. Flavourings include Italian syrups, chocolate, and spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, or cardamom). |
